Elizabeth Bowman is a Ph.D. student in Renaissance literature and drama at Northern Illinois University. She is working on a dissertation that (in its current form) explores the afterlives of the Jacobean playwright John Webster's great female characters (the Duchess of Malfi, Julia, Vittoria, etc.) in adaptations ranging from German Romantic novelizations to Mike Figgis's experimental 2001 film Hotel. She is returning to poetry and creative writing after a long winter.
